Diameter of tapped hole The actual diameter of a tapped hole for:
M6 is 5.00 mm
M5 is 4.20 mm,
M4 is 3.3mm,
M3 is 2.5mm (hole) x 0.5mm (thread pitch), diameter of screw is 2.9mm
M2.5 is 2.05, screw is 2.4mm,
M2 is 1.6, screw is 1.9mm.

So if you are measuring the screw yourself and your caliper says the screw diameter is 2.4mm you have to order an M2.5 screw to match it.
